Clermont County, Ohio - Permit Central
Welcome!
Permit Central's goal is one stop and one application per project. During 1999, participants came closer to the goal. At one counter, applicants can now process permits including building, electrical, mechanical, fire, driveway, sewer, water, private water and septic systems, plumbing, and food service. Already, the Permit Central collaboration between Building Inspections, Sewer & Water, the Engineer's Office and the General Health District has condensed four locations, six departments and six applications into four applications and one stop. During 1997, the permit process was further streamlined by enabling customers to apply for mobile home permits or waterline permits at the Health District counter or the Building Inspection Counter. In October of 1997, The Ohio Department of Commerce opened its Southwest Ohio Regional Office at Permit Central. The office was officially dedicated in January, 1998. The office, serving 13 counties, includes a plans examiner, plumbing inspector and secretary.
Teamwork a success:
Building Inspection works together with the General Health District, the County Engineer's office and zoning officials throughout the county. Zoning departments determine that the work being performed is zoned correctly. For residential work, a zoning permit or a Letter of Approval should be obtained first. For a commercial project, the zoning permit is to be obtained before the permit is issued. The Building Inspection Department reviews plans for structural safety. Personnel, from the engineer's office, review plans to be certain the curb cuts are correct, to check on the water management and sediment control, position of sewer and water lines, and the positioning of the driveways and sidewalks. The Health Department reviews plans for correct plumbing installation and food service for restaurants. Insofar as issuing food service licenses to local restaurants, all final inspections must be approved by the Building Inspection Department before the General Health District will issue a food service license. Before a certificate of occupancy is issued for a residence or place of business, final inspections are to be approved by all designated inspectors.
