Clermont County Saving Energy and Money
Immediate Release
December 28, 2011
Batavia, Ohio. Clermont County will save an estimated $1 million dollars in energy costs to power county buildings, the water and sewer treatment plants, and related systems in 2012. “The cost savings could be even higher,” said Clermont County Administrator Dave Spinney. “By consolidating all the county agency’s demands for electricity and bidding out our electric supply contract, the county has obtained a reduced rate of less than $.05 per kilowatt hour with Direct Energy. In addition to obtaining a lesser cost for each kilowatt hour of energy used, numerous energy efficient products were installed in county buildings this year with a goal of saving over $3 million in the next decade.”
According to the Clermont County Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the Clermont Water Resources Department will save the most, as a result of the new energy rates. “We anticipate that water and sewer operations will save almost $696,000 in 2012, with an additional savings of almost $193,000 for the county Facilities Management division that maintains county buildings and property,” said OMB Director Sukie Scheetz.
“We’ve made lighting upgrades to 28 county buildings, installed programmable thermostats, and low flow water devices to lower our energy use,” said Clermont Facilities Management Director Wade Grabowski. He said the energy efficiencies installed in 2011will have a guaranteed savings of more than eight percent each year, over prior energy usage.
