Batavia, Ohio. Time to start looking for a good spot along SR125 to watch the 31st annual Amelia holiday parade, set for Sunday, December 11, 2011. “Generations of families gather to watch the Christmas parade together,” said event organizer Jack Schiller. “People put up chairs along the parade route hours before the parade begins and it is a lot of fun to see all the excitement in young and old alike!” The parade steps off at 2 p.m. from the vicinity of Nurre Funeral Home and heads east on SR125 to River Hills Bank.
“This year our theme is Hometown Heroes,” said Schiller. “We hope to have three grand marshals, all heroes in our military or our community.” He said last year they had 40 marching units in the parade and hopes there will be more this year. “We have the Amelia High School Band performing, there are church and scout groups making floats, emergency responders will bring their equipment, and there will be some horses pulling wagons and carriages,” he said. “They all lead up to the big event, the arrival of Santa at the end of the parade. He will be passing out candy canes to children.”
