Batavia, Ohio. “I just wanted to help the horses feel better,” said 14-year-old Sara Grabowski of New Richmond; she and her mom dropped off food and supplies today for the six malnourished horses, a donkey and pony, currently in the custody of the Clermont County Animal Shelter. The animals were taken from a farm in Bethel earlier this week in an alleged animal cruelty case. “I really like horses and wanted to do what I could when I found out that the animals were hungry,” said Sara.
Amy Kramer of Milford also dropped off several leads, brushes, alfalfa pellets, and peppermint bites for the animals. “My husband and I love animals and wanted to do whatever we could to help these poor animals,” she said.
Tom Carney with Carney’s Feed Mill in Batavia dropped off equine horse feed, alfalfa cubes, and salt that had been donated by a woman in Indian Hill. “She is a regular customer who called us right away when she heard that donations were needed to care for the horses,” said Carney. The Feed Mill also donated to the care of the animals currently being cared for at an undisclosed local farm. A veterinarian that is caring for the animals reports that they are doing well and responding to the care and nourishment they are receiving.
Donations of bagged bedding, baled bedding, heated buckets, and stall mats are needed to care for the animals, in addition to flax seed oil, corn oil, alfalfa cubes, anti-bacterial shampoo, and equine senior Purina. Donations are being accepted at the Clermont County Animal Shelter, located at 4025 Filager Road in Batavia between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Donations, after hours, can be left at the building behind the shelter. The Clermont County Animal Shelter will be closed on New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1, 2010.
An account has also been set up to accept cash donations at Bethel Feed and Supply, located at 528 W. Plane Street in Bethel.
