Batavia, Ohio. “This is an event that should not be missed!” said Judi Adams, one of the organizers of the seventh annual Down Home Holiday Celebration in Bethel. Set for Saturday, December 5, 2009, the daylong celebration features visits with Santa, a free Kidsfest where they can make crafts, open houses at various Bethel stores, a craft show, a parade at 4 p.m., giveaways, and a community choir cantata.
“Our businesses will also have a window decorating competition that will be a lot of fun to see,” said Susan Barger, another event organizer. “Local Scout troops also help paint the shop windows and this event gets bigger every year.” “The whole community gets involved with this project and it is really refreshing to see how well everything fits together for a wonderful old fashioned holiday celebration,” said Adams.
“After checking out the holiday displays, we invite everyone to come to nearby Burke Park for free coffee, hot apple cider and a bowl of vegetable soup,” added Ron Shouse with the Burke Park Log Cabin Committee. Both log cabins at the park will be decked out for the holidays and open for you to see. “The Acord cabin was built prior to 1840 and the blacksmith cabin is a fully functional shop with a great collection of tools and equipment that was used to shoe horses during the 1800’s,” said Shouse. “We hope that the cabins will eventually be completely restored and will educate young people for many years about what life was like here so many years ago.”
