Batavia, Ohio. There’s a new way to help homeless and unwanted animals in Clermont County this holiday season. “We’ve put up a Holiday Wish Tree in the lobby of the Clermont Animal Shelter,” said Clermont Animal Shelter Director Kim Naegel. “We invite everyone to come out and pick either a white or blue snowflake from the tree, purchase the item on the tag, bring the gift to the shelter, and keep the snowflake for your own tree.”
White snowflakes on the tree are for a variety of items ranging from office and cleaning supplies to garbage bags, clay cat litter, stamps, gift cards, and rawhide dog treats. The blue snowflakes are for larger items, such as a copy machine, digital camera, and a commercial washer and dryer. “With limited funding, any and all items are very much appreciated this year,” said Naegel.
She says the struggling economy has had an impact on family pets. “We’ve had a number of cases this year where families have had to relocate from houses to apartments, and could no longer keep their dog or cat. It’s heartbreaking. We hope that the community realizes that we have a number of wonderful dogs and cats available for adoption; we even have a number of purebreds and designer dogs, like the Puggle,” she said. A Puggle is a mix of a Pug and a beagle.
The Clermont County Animal Shelter is located at 4025 Filager Road in Batavia. It is open from 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday; the shelter can be reached at (513) 732-8854.
