Batavia, Ohio. The Board of Clermont County Commissioners has proclaimed the week of November 6-12, 2011 as Veterans Awareness Week to celebrate and honor the patriots who have sacrificed so much for our liberty and the security of our nation. The Clermont County Veterans’ Service Office asks the community to show support for veterans and active duty troops by attending the annual Clermont County Veterans Day Parade on Friday, November 11, sponsored by the Clermont County Council of the American Legion, in cooperation with the Clermont Veterans’ Service Commission.
“At 4 p.m. on November 11, we are unveiling the engraved names on a large boulder at the Batavia Township Community Center Park of the 14 local fallen heroes who died during service to our country dating back to the Persian Gulf War (1990-’91),” said Veterans’ Service Office Director Dan Bare. A brief ceremony is planned near the Humvee memorial at the park, located at 1535 Clough Pike in Batavia Township.
“We encourage citizens to line Main Street in Batavia for a 7 p.m. Veterans’ Day Parade,” said Bare. “Veterans, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and other community groups are invited to participate in the parade that will begin lining up at the Batavia Post Office at 6 p.m.” The post office is located at 575 W. Main Street in Batavia. For more information about the memorial plaque or the parade, contact the Clermont County Veterans’ Service Office at 732-7363.
