October 19, 2011
Batavia, Ohio. Clermont County Administrator David Spinney has announced plans to retire on January 1, 2012. Spinney has served as the county administrator for the past 10 years. “It is time for me to move on to the next stage of my life,” Spinney told Clermont County commissioners Ed Humphrey, Bob Proud, and Archie Wilson, during a meeting of the board on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. “It has been rewarding to serve as your county administrator and I appreciate the opportunity I have been given.”
“We are all shocked by your decision and wish you would have agreed to stay with the county longer,” said Board of Clermont County Commissioners President Ed Humphrey. “You have made numerous contributions to county government and you will be difficult to replace.” “We’ve gone through a lot since you came to Clermont County government in 1994,” said Board of Clermont County Commissioners Vice President Bob Proud. “I have always appreciated your professionalism and I value our friendship.” Commissioner Archie Wilson added,” You have always been respectful, a gentleman, and worked tirelessly to get me information I have requested about numerous issues in the county.”
Prior to serving as county administrator, Spinney was an assistant county administrator and the director of Planning and Development. He was the Milford City Manager between 1988 and 1994; Spinney was the town manager of Indian Head, Maryland between 1985 and1988. Spinney has been a public servant for over 36 years.
Spinney said his biggest accomplishments involve local transportation and infrastructure improvements. “The economic downturn has been difficult, but we have a great core staff in the county. I have received a tremendous amount of support from county employees; that has probably been the most rewarding part of the job,” he said.
What’s next? “I plan to spend time with my children and grandchildren,” he said.
