Batavia, Ohio. The world’s largest gavel (according to www.RoadsideAmerica.com) is a product of Clermont County. The 31-foot long, 38,000 pound polished stainless steel artwork that stands 12 feet tall was fabricated by Odom Industries of Miami Township. “It’s a privilege to have a piece made by our company on display in the south pool outside the Supreme Court of Ohio building in Columbus,” said Rita Odom. “Our company made the artwork that was designed by sculptor Andrew Scott.”
Odom said the original plan was to make the structure twice as big, but the price of steel necessitated the project be scaled back. “Actually it wasn’t too difficult for us to make, once the drawing was translated into dimensions,” she added. The gavel was created as part of a multi-million dollar renovation of the Supreme Court building.
In addition to creating custom artwork, such as the gavel, Odom Industries, located at 1262 U.S. 50 in Clermont County offers a full range of heavy plate, large-scale fabricating services for the steel mill, mining, construction, and petrochemical industries.
