Batavia, Ohio. Childhood memories of classmates, teachers, and recess came flooding back to Clermont County Commissioner Bob Proud as he stood outside the new Amelia Elementary school, currently under construction. Proud and longtime local sports writer and local historian Rick Crawford (who also attended Amelia Elementary) joined students, staff, and West Clermont district leaders to sign trusses that will be placed in the roof of the new school. “I have so many great memories of attending Amelia Elementary,” said Commissioner Proud. “I know that those who are given the opportunity to attend this new school will be taught by the finest teachers in a state of the art facility; they will receive an excellent education.”
West Clermont is building two new schools to replace Amelia Elementary and Withamsville-Tobasco Elementary. The new schools will incorporate up to date building standards, current technology demands, and they will be handicapped accessible. The facilities are being erected directly behind the current schools and are expected to open in the fall of 2010. When the new schools are complete the old schools will be demolished.
“I’m appreciative that I had the opportunity to sign the truss, Amelia Elementary has a very special place in my heart” said Commissioner Proud. “As a former student of this school and a resident of this community, I take great pride in our new school. The future is bright for students of Amelia Elementary.”
