Hoping for WOW Factor at Milford High School
Immediate Release
September 2, 2010
Batavia, Ohio. Wow! That’s the word Milford School District Operations Manager Jeff Johnson hopes to hear a lot of, when students head back to Milford High School on Tuesday, September 7, 2010. “Work crews have been quite busy over the summer, and the $31 million dollar renovation project has come in $5 million under budget and is done three months ahead of schedule,” said Johnson, during a recent tour of the school. “There will be two main entrances to the high school, wireless access throughout the building, and sensors that will heat or cool a room depending on whether it is being used. Even though we are adding a total of 150,000 square feet of space, because of energy conservation efforts, our heating and cooling bills will be the same as they were or lower.”
Students will also notice a bigger cafeteria, designed with space for 800 kids to eat lunch and fitted with large windows and flat screen TV’s. “One hallway leading to the cafeteria is being called Bauer Commons, in tribute to the recently deceased high school Principal Dr. Raymond Bauer,” said Johnson. “Dr. Bauer was loved by many students, faculty, and community members; they took a collection to buy a memorial that will be on display in the commons area, along with pictures and popular Bauer comments.”
Those attending the Ninth Grade Community will no longer be able to say they can’t hear the teacher, when they sit in the back of the room. Those classrooms have been outfitted with sound enhancement systems. Other improvements include window replacements, roof repairs, renovation of the school pool, and classroom upgrades at the nearby Milford Junior High School.
“We hope the students, faculty, and the entire community will enjoy the enhancements made to the schools,” said Johnson, as he waved to some of the teachers arriving to set up their classrooms for the new school year.
