Clermont Offers Classes to Help Local Vets with Ohio Veterans Bonus Program

Batavia, Ohio. “There are around 3,000 veterans in Clermont County who are eligible for the Ohio Veterans Bonus program,” said senior veterans’ services officer Frank Morrow, with the Clermont County Veterans’ Services Office. “We are offering classes to help veterans of the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, and Iraq wars complete the forms. Veterans can receive up to $1,500 for their service, under legislation that was overwhelmingly approved by voters last November.” The classes will be held each Thursday, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the conference room of Clermont Veterans’ Services offices, located at 76 South Riverside Drive in Batavia. “I want to make sure that people realize that all branches of the service, the Coast Guard, and the Ohio National Guard are eligible for the bonus,” said Morrow. “To be eligible for a bonus, a veteran must have been an Ohio resident at the beginning of active duty service and must be an Ohio resident when he or she applies for the bonus.” To be eligible for the bonus, a veteran must have separated from the armed forces under honorable conditions, must remain on active duty service, or after active duty—the veteran remains in any reserve component of the armed forces, including the Ohio National Guard.
Family members of deceased veterans are also eligible to participate in the Ohio Veterans Bonus program.

Morrow said that those attending the classes should bring their Ohio driver’s license and DD214 papers, a document issued upon a military service member's retirement, separation, or discharge from active-duty military.
