Immediate Release
September 2, 2009
Batavia, Ohio. The Board of Clermont County Commissioners has proclaimed Saturday, September 5, 2009 as AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day. “The American Kennel Club (AKC) makes a great effort to educate citizens about all types of responsible dog ownership,” said Norma Woolf with the Clermont County chapter of the AKC. “From obedience training, to the importance of proper leashing and spaying/neutering, we are working to strengthen bonds between dogs, their family, and the community.”
This weekend (September 5-6) the Clermont AKC chapter will hold an all breed dog show at the Clermont County Fairgrounds in Owensville; the competitions will run from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. each day. “The show is a great opportunity for people to see dogs perform numerous obedience exercises, respond to various hand signals, and find their owners’ items by tracing the scent,” said Woolf.
In making the proclamation, the BCC recognized the work of the Clermont AKC for its donations to dog-related organizations (including 4-H), assisting elderly pet owners in the county, and providing pet oxygen masks to local fire departments.
Why add a dog to your household? “They are so intuitive,” said Woolf. “They can pick up quickly on your mood, provide a calming influence and are a lot of fun to take a walk with or snuggle up on the couch with for an afternoon nap.”
