Batavia, Ohio. The president of the Clermont County Veterans' Service Commission, Cliff Riley of Milford, has been named the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) - Buckeye State Council's "Veteran of the Year." The award was presented during the organization's annual convention and awards program, held in Newark, Ohio.
In nominating Riley for the award, Clermont County Veterans' Service Director Dan Bare talked about the many years that Riley has served as an advocate for veterans. "I can sincerely say that I cannot think of another Vietnam veteran who is more deserving of this recognition," said Bare. "He is a true leader and inspires everyone he works with."
"I am deeply honored for this recognition," said Riley. "I would like to thank the many dedicated members of the local veterans support community who work tirelessly to ensure that their fellow vets and those currently deployed receive the assistance and recognition they deserve."
Riley's VVA chapter, Clermont County Chapter 649, was named "Chapter of the Year." The chapter was cited for its outstanding service to the community, membership retention, commitment to the goals and purposes of the VVA and to the organization's founding motto, Never Again Will One Generation of Veterans Abandon Another.
Two other members of Chapter 649 also received awards for their contributions. Ron Miller was given the "Presidential Award" for services rendered on the Buckeye State Council Executive Board, and Diane Sears was named "Associate of the Year" for her numerous efforts to welcome home veterans and assist them in receiving benefits, including health care.
