Immediate Release
August 26, 2010
Batavia, Ohio. The Board of Clermont County Commissioners, along with communities nationwide, is proclaiming Saturday, September 11, 2010 as National Patriot Day, to remember and honor those who died in the terrorist attacks on America that occurred on that tragic day nine years ago. Nearly 3,000 people were killed when hijackers deliberately flew three planes into the Pentagon and the World Trade Center; a fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. This was the biggest act of terrorism ever on American soil.
On National Patriot Day, the proclamation calls upon Clermont County citizens to express their patriotism by flying the American flag at half-staff. There will also be a national moment of silence observed at 8:46 a.m. to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001.
Inspired by the heroic sacrifices of firefighters, law enforcement, military personnel, and everyday citizens in the aftermath of that tragic day, our nation has found unity, focus, and strength. “Today we see the virtue of the September 11 heroes embodied in our military personnel,” according to the proclamation. “We are grateful to all of these men and women and to their families for their sacrifice and service. We honor those who have lost their lives defending our freedom.”
