Batavia, Ohio. If you’ve got some old cardboard, a roll of duct tape, and a little imagination, you could create the winning entry in the annual New Richmond Cardboard Boat Regatta. This crazy competition will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2009, as part of the River Days celebration in New Richmond. “Words cannot describe how much fun the boat race is—it’s Americana at its best,” said event organizer Ray Perszyk. “Dozens of cardboard creations line the riverfront for the race each year; from dragon boats to paddle wheelers, you’ll see it all. Some of the boats even float!” Around 50 cardboard boats are expected to take part in the regatta this year.
Over 50,000 people are expected to attend New Richmond River Days; the event will be held along the scenic Ohio River, August 21-23, 2009. River Days offers food, rides, games of chance, crafts, live music, and a fireworks display on Saturday night. “This year we’ve also got a cornhole tournament and a classic car show,” said Perszyk.
River Days will kick off from 6 p.m. until midnight on Friday, August 21; on Saturday, August 22, it runs from noon until midnight; on Sunday the event will be held from noon until 6 p.m. For more information visit the Web site www.nrriverdays.com.
