July 22, 2009
Batavia, Ohio. A skydiver from Team Fastrax based at Start Skydiving (located in Lebanon, Ohio) will deliver an American flag to the track in front of the grandstands as part of the Salute to Veterans and Our Troops scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the Clermont County Fairgrounds in Owensville. The Salute, organized by Clermont County Commissioner Bob Proud, begins at 6:30 p.m. “We encourage the entire community to attend and show support for our troops, our veterans, and their families,” said Proud.
Featured speakers for the event are Colonel Danny Bubp, Ohio State Representative (R-88) and Kim Pellington, co-founder of the Whole in My Heart military support group. “This county has been especially hard hit in the war on terrorism,” said Colonel Bubp. “Since 2004, nine young men with local ties have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.” Colonel Bubp, recently retired from the United States Marine Corps, was mobilized in November 2007 and served in Ramadi, Iraq as the liaison officer to the Governor of Anbar Province from January 2008 through November 2008.
“Kim Pellington’s son served two tours of duty in Iraq and will talk about how much our military, and their families left behind, appreciate the community support they receive,” said Commissioner Proud. Those attending the Salute will be led in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance by the Whole in My Heart support group and representatives from WWII to the current global war on terrorism.
During fair week, all current or former members of our Armed Forces will be admitted free, with a military ID. The fair will be held July 26 to August 1 at the Clermont County Fairgrounds, located at 1000 Locust Street in Owensville.
