Batavia, Ohio. Road crews with the Clermont County Engineer’s Office are patrolling the 400 miles of county roadways they oversee, checking for ice-related problems. “As of noon today, the overall condition of county roadways is good,” said Rob Alfieri, deputy of operations with the Engineer’s Office. “The Engineer’s Office began today with around 3,000 tons of salt at three storage facilities across the county; we believe it is an adequate supply to handle the several inches of snow that are expected, along with possible roadway icing as the temperature falls.”
Alfieri said that his crews are on alternating 12 hour shifts that will continue until this latest batch of winter weather moves through. “I’d like to remind drivers that if they are traveling near a snowplow to give the vehicle adequate space to work,” he said. “The plows are wide and can cross the center line of the roadway. The snowplow operator has a restricted field of vision; if you can’t see the plows side mirrors, chances are the driver can’t see you.”
The Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness also reminds drivers that plows can create snow clouds while they are working. The clouds can make it difficult for drivers to see if they are traveling too closely to the plow.
