Batavia, Ohio. Road crews with the Clermont County Engineer’s Office began pre-treating the 400 miles of county roadways they oversee at 4 a.m. today; some hills and intersections have received three applications of salt and calcium chloride. “As of 2 p.m. the overall condition of county roadways is good,” said Rob Alfieri, deputy of operations with the Engineer’s Office. “The Engineer’s Office began today with around 3,000 tons of salt and will be topping off the storage facilities soon.”
Alfieri and his crews report that traffic problems are minimal on county roadways, but that drivers need to be diligent, because ice spots can pop up suddenly. “Our crews have been prepared to plow the roads, but at this point, we have not needed to,” he said. “We will have drivers constantly monitoring the roadways to determine if extra measures are needed.”
