Child Support Round-up a Success
Batavia, Ohio. Child Support Month in Clermont County was a big success, thanks to the dedication of the Clermont County's Sheriff's Office, the assistance of the public, the support of the Board of County Commissioners, and the diligent efforts of the staff of Clermont County's Department of Job and Family Services, Division of Child Support Enforcement.
In the month of August, the Sheriff's Office was successful in apprehending child support payors in 85 out of the 123 cases which have outstanding bench warrants. A total of $16,072 was collected, and nine new wage assignments were put into effect. Sixteen of the 123 payors have been indicted on criminal non-support charges. These figures represent a 69 percent success rate on this initiative.
Child Support Month began with marketing efforts to publicize the initiation of the pilot program Ohio e-QuickPay, which began in mid-July. Ohio e-QuickPay allows those individuals who receive child support to obtain the funds on a debit card which can be used to access funds wherever MasterCard is accepted by retailers and banks. Clermont County is one of the six pilot counties across the state which participated in the initial phase of the program. It is set to go statewide in January 2005.
As part of efforts to bring the situation to the attention of the community, the Clermont County Child Support Enforcement Agency put together a "Most Wanted" advertisement that ran in a local newspaper, "Most Wanted" posters were distributed throughout Clermont County, and Deputy Director of the Clermont County Child Support Agency, Brenda Gilreath, appeared on television to discuss how the round-up of offenders benefits needy children and families in Clermont County.
In addition, CSE published a brochure entitled "You are Someone's Hero" which describes available services and includes inspiring comments about parenting.
