Successful Child Support Roundup in Clermont County
Batavia, Ohio. The August Clermont County "Child Support Roundup" has resulted in the apprehensions of 120 individuals. "These individuals all had outstanding warrants for failure to pay, failure to appear for scheduled hearings, or warrants for criminal charges of non support of dependents," said Clermont Department of Job and Family Services' Child Support Enforcement (CSE) Director Brenda Gilreath. In addition, 17 warrants were resolved as a result of the Sheriff's Office locating individuals incarcerated in institutions on unrelated charges.
The sixth annual roundup was a partnership between CSE, the Clermont Sheriff's Office, Common Pleas Court, Juvenile Court, and Domestic Relations Court. Several wanted subjects were found regionally, and throughout the United States.
The targeted search for the child support offenders did take an unusual turn in Norwood. "One of our officers, with the assistance of Norwood Police, went to a home early in the morning," said Clermont Sheriff A.J. "Tim" Rodenberg. "A man other than the wanted subject answered the door and told the officers the man they were looking for wasn't there. The officers did find him there, in the attic. He explained to the officers he wasn't hiding, just looking for something."
"The individuals targeted in August are the worst child support offenders we have," added Gilreath. "These are individuals who have outstanding warrants and have deliberately avoided court orders to pay what is owed to their children." In August, $37,233 was collected from the child support offenders collared.
In addition to the roundup, CSE distributed a Most Wanted poster featuring nine of the biggest offenders. Information and
pictures about the individuals targeted have been appearing in local newspapers, on the Web site www.ClermontSupportsKids.org and
on cable access television across Clermont County. If you can help locate any of the individuals, please contact CSE at (513) 732-7248.
