Press Release
Clermont County Observes Child Support Month
Batavia, Ohio. The Board of Clermont County Commissioners has proclaimed the month of August as Child Support Enforcement Month in the county. Throughout the month, the Clermont County Department of Job & Family Services' division of Child Support Enforcement (CSE) has activities planned to bring attention to the importance of the child support program to families in our community, and to actively seek information on those who are avoiding payment of child support. Among the activities planned:
- The Clermont County annual Most Wanted Poster will be distributed throughout the county during August.
The poster features nine non-custodial parents who owe a total of $156,530 in outstanding child support payments.
- For the fifth year in a row, CSE is sponsoring a round up of the most wanted child support offenders.
It is a joint collaboration between CSE, the Sheriff's Office, the Prosecutor's Office, Common Pleas Court, and
Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts. During the round up, the Sheriff's office has 13 deputies assigned to
track down the delinquent parents. The round up targets individuals who have outstanding bench warrants for
failure to pay child support and for failure to appear for required hearings. Pictures of and information about
the most wanted offenders will be aired on local government access Channel 22, and information regarding these
individuals will be publicized in a local newspaper. Citizens are encouraged to call the agency at (513)
732-7248 with information that could lead to the whereabouts of those targeted. Bench warrants and most wanted
information has been placed on the agencies Web site www.clermontsupportskids.org. During the first week of the
round up, the Sheriff's Office apprehended 18 child support offenders, 10 on civil bench warrants and 8 on felony
bench warrants. The 2005 month long round up resulted in 89 apprehensions.
- The agency is also sponsoring a coloring page contest in which prizes will be awarded in three different age groups
for children who enter. The coloring page is available at the CSE office located at 2400 Clermont Center Drive in
Batavia. It is also online, at www.clermontsupportskids.org.
- Local businesses are participating in the monthly observance by making donations that will be given to children who appear at CSE for genetic testing.
The Child Support Program serves over one million children in the State of Ohio and is the second largest public program supporting children; only public education serves more children.
