Clermont County Announces Amnesty Month for Parents behind in Child Support
Batavia, Ohio. The Clermont County Department of Job and Family Services' Division of Child Support Enforcement will be offering an amnesty month in July, for parents who are behind in making child support payments, and who meet certain criteria.
From July 1 through July 31, 2005, those who are overdue in making child support payments can contact the county agency and arrange to bring their accounts up to date. The child support agency will suspend or withdraw legal action pending on cases, including administrative driver's license suspension and administrative liens on property, for those parents who make satisfactory arrangements to make payments toward their child support. Those who make a significant payment toward the arrearage, and/or who contact Child Support Enforcement with employment information from which a wage assignment can be completed, will be considered for the amnesty offer.
Clermont County Child Support Enforcement has taken a proactive position against those delinquent in making child support payments. In 2004, the agency collected over $500,000 in child support through the administrative driver's license suspension program. In addition, administrative liens are among the newest method the agency utilizes to collect child support from delinquent individuals. This simple but direct process allows the agency to place liens on real or personal property belonging to those who are at least one month behind in meeting a child support obligation.
The amnesty program is being initiated in connection with Clermont County's annual observance of Child Support Month. Securing support for Clermont County=s children remains a top priority, and it is the hope of the members of the staff of Child Support Enforcement that the amnesty program will result in additional funds for families in our community.
During August, Clermont County Child Support Enforcement will place an emphasis on enforcement techniques, such as suspension of driver's licenses, filing administrative liens, publicizing most wanted offenders, and working closely with the Sheriff's Office to arrest those who have failed to pay child support. Individuals who are behind on support payments are encouraged to call Clermont County Child Support Enforcement during the amnesty time frame to make arrangements for payment, and to avoid enforcement actions which will occur in August.
